ABOUT US

Pregnant with Possibilities Resource Center provides culturally competent sexual health education, perinatal support, tools and techniques that equip individuals to overcome barriers to give birth to their goals. Our programs and services are research-based, reflect best practices, and are designed by Black women for Black teens and women who live in Cleveland and its southeast suburbs. All services are free and confidential.

OUR INITIATIVES

Pregnant with Possibilities Resource Center (PPRC), has been present since 2015 and our mission is to enable young women in Northeast Ohio to realize their full potential. Our mission is achieved by creating community partnerships, offering supportive programs, mentorship, and character development. For the past four years, we’ve had the pleasure of serving within the community. Most recently we opened our doors for the community to walk into our facility for resources, classes and workshops, and new or used baby items.

Sexual Health Education Programs for Teens

The Endless Possibilities Program research-based curriculum is an enjoyable, engaging, and interactive ten-session program for young ladies in grades 6-12. The program aims to prevent premature pregnancies, AIDS, and STDs, while addressing the challenges of academic success, relationships, self-esteem, and peer pressure.

  • Our highly interactive program includes lectures, classroom discussions, interactive games, literacy activities, goal-setting journals, and a book club component.
Women’s Empowerment Program

The Afterparty is a yearlong program that brings M.O.M Program Alumni together to build a tribe of support, accountability, and resources. The program consists of monthly mentoring, bi-monthly workshops, incentives for goals, and strategic family planning. The aim is to decrease toxic stress, infant mortality, and subsequent pregnancies while increasing self-awareness and goal accomplishment. This powerful series addresses the cycles of systemic racism while offering real solutions to break barriers that have bound women to patterns of generational cycles.

Prenatal Support Program - M.O.M (Making Opportunities Matter)

Our 13-session research-based M.O.M program is designed to help women who are pregnant or are up to 12 months postpartum. Women meet as a group, twice a week with a trained trauma-informed facilitator, to create a plan for life that produces an overall healthy emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

  • Sessions integrate didactic teaching, role-playing, interactive activities, pre-and post-natal yoga, fetal and parental literacy, and group discussion. Women join MOM because they hear how powerful it is.

Courtney Gousman

News Channel 5 Anchor

She’s always been inquisitive and loves to meet new people, so for Courtney Gousman, journalism is second nature. Courtney is an Emmy award-winning journalist who currently serves as the Evening Anchor for WEWS-TV—the oldest station in the state of Ohio. She joined the Cleveland station in September of 2020, and you can find her anchoring the 5, 6, and 11 pm every weeknight.

Prior to moving to Cleveland, Courtney worked in her hometown of Chicago– the nation’s top-three television market, beginning in 2012. It was there she reported and anchored on the latest happenings from overnight on Chicago’s number-one morning show, WGN Morning News.

Prior to her time at WGN News, Courtney reported for WBBM-TV in Chicago, where she won a 2014 Illinois Associated Press Award. She previously worked at St. Louis’ KSDK-TV as an Anchor/Reporter, bringing home a Missouri Broadcaster’s Award. Courtney also has fond memories from her time at WEHT-TV in Evansville, IN, and KRCG-TV in Jefferson City, MO—among her first T.V. jobs during her tour of the Midwest.

Courtney launched into broadcasting during her freshman year of college, at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism at Hampton University. It was at Hampton, where Courtney began working as a Disc Jockey for WHOV-FM in Hampton, VA. Over the years she’s had the opportunity to cover the “D.C. Sniper” Trials of John Allen Muhammad and Lee Malvo and interview The Queen of Talk: Oprah, former U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama, and the parents of Trayvon Martin.

Courtney has covered devastating tornadoes, wildfires in the West, and Chicago’s tumultuous political arena— including the deadly police shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, the arrest of R&B singer, R. Kelly, and the circus that is now known as the Jussie Smollett investigation. She’s also had many exciting opportunities, covering historic moments like the 50 year anniversary of the march from Selma to Montgomery and the opening of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture.

Courtney was raised on the south side of Chicago, in the city’s Beverly neighborhood. She’s a proud alumni of Whitney Young High School, also the alma mater of former First Lady, Michelle Obama.  Courtney received her B.A. in Mass Media (with a concentration in Broadcasting) at Hampton University’s Scripps-Howard School of Journalism in Virginia.

Courtney is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and in the past, has volunteered as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

She loves giving back, dedicating her free time to mentoring youth. Courtney often serves as a motivational speaker for a number of women’s conferences, churches, entrepreneurial groups, journalism students, and elementary schools. She has also served as master of ceremonies and moderator for countless organizations including the Center for Advancing Domestic Peace, Driehaus School of Business at DePaul University, Fifth-Third Bank, the Chicago Chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association, and her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Courtney loves working as a journalist, because she says, “My career has allowed me to help resolve issues for those who have run out of options. I also enjoy being able to shine a light on important topics, deeds, and community champions who often go unnoticed.”

Courtney is a self-proclaimed “foodie” and has a love for international travel—but her favorite thing to do is spend time with her young son.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Why you should attend and/ or become a sponsor for the 6th Annual Mommy and Me Ball Fundraiser:

The Mommy & Me Ball Fundraiser has reached over 1,300 mothers and children since 2017. Your support will enhance Pregnant with Possibilities Resource Center’s ability to address reduced pre-term birth rates, decrease infant mortality, and improve access to culturally sensitive healthcare. PPRC’s demonstrated history of supporting Greater Cleveland’s female teens and young women has resulted in its ability to fully recognize that the aforementioned deleterious outcomes are even more troubling among black women. Attending this amazing night strengthens mothers’ and child’s relationships while community champions have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development and families while impacting the social determinants of health.

Through our promotional marketing efforts, your brand will reach over 200 mothers and community champions. We create organic opportunities for individuals and businesses to connect with key decision makers with several valued added sponsorship levels.

Your contributions are tax-deductible! Please send donations, and your camera-ready artwork by August 31, 2023, to:
